When to call it an emergency
- Three-compartment sink backing up during service
- Grease water at a floor drain or an interceptor lid
- A sewer backup on your lateral with grease as the likely cause
- An inspector in the building and a tank you know is over 25%
What happens when you call
You describe what is under the lid and what is on the floor. We tell you pump-out or line problem, quote a flat emergency price, and give an arrival window. On site: full contents out, baffle and outlet check, trip ticket in hand. If the blockage is past the interceptor, you hear that before a hose comes off the truck.
If grease reached the sewer
Reno Environmental Control is on call 24 hours for spills at (775) 722-4660; service issues go to Reno Direct at (775) 334-4636. In Sparks, the code requires notifying the public works director “immediately upon becoming aware of an accidental discharge, spill, or slug discharge,” followed by a written statement within five days (SMC 13.36.110(A)). In the county, CSD Utility Services is (775) 954-4601. Reporting it yourself is cheaper than being traced to it.
Afterward
Keep the trip ticket. If a blockage or damage to city facilities is traced to your discharge, Reno can add the cleaning and repair cost to your sewer bill (12.16.814); a documented same-day pump-out is the record that argues for you.
